Who can use student storage?

Any university or Erasmus student living in Milan. We regularly work with students from Politecnico, Bocconi, Statale, Cattolica, IULM, NABA, Humanitas and other Milan universities.

How much does student storage cost?

The price depends on the size and number of boxes: you pay a single rate covering the whole storage period, pickup and delivery included. Calculate the exact price on our pricing page or directly in the booking form.

For how long can I store my boxes?

From 1 month up to the whole summer (or longer). The most common case is June→September, but you can book for any period. Extending is easy — you do it from your account.

Are my boxes safe?

Yes. Our facility is indoor, dry and access-controlled, and each box is checked at pickup, labelled with a unique code and logged in our system. If you notice an issue on return, report it right away: we handle it according to the Terms and Conditions.

What can I put in the boxes?

Clothes, books, personal items, non-fragile kitchen accessories, shoes and non-electronic sports gear: anything that fits in a standard box. Not accepted: battery-powered items or items containing batteries (e.g. smartphones, laptops, tablets, wireless earbuds, power banks, drones, cameras); money and valuables, jewellery, original documents, items worth more than €100, medicines, food and liquids, fragile items, artworks, hazardous or flammable materials, weapons and anything illegal. Mains-powered appliances without a battery are allowed instead (e.g. hair straightener, hair dryer, lamps). If in doubt, message us before pickup.

Can I add or remove boxes during storage?

Yes. Before pickup you can change the number of boxes up to the day before by messaging us in chat: we update the quote and you only pay for the boxes we actually collect. To add more boxes once storage has started, just make a quick new booking.

What if I'm not in Milan on pickup day?

You don't need to be present. Just leave your boxes at reception or the entrance. You'll get an email confirmation with the unique code for each box.

How do I book student storage?

Go to /book, enter your pickup address, number of boxes and preferred date. You get an instant quote, pay securely with card and receive an email confirmation. Total time: 3 minutes.

Do I need to show a university enrolment certificate?

No, we don't ask for university certificates or any proof of enrolment. The service is called student storage because it's designed for them, but you don't need to prove you are one to book.

Can I use the storage even if I'm not a student?

Yes. The service is designed for university and Erasmus students, but if you're a young worker or a temporary resident in the city you can use it too. Conditions and prices are the same.

Is Smoves a traditional self-storage?

No. A classic self-storage in Milan (MyPlace, Casaforte, BoxMyPlace) rents you an empty unit from 1 m³ up that you have to reach and load yourself — useful if you have furniture or many boxes. Smoves instead picks up your boxes at home, you only pay for what you actually store and you don't sign annual contracts. For a student with 5-15 boxes it's structurally cheaper than traditional self-storage. It's what international students often call university storage.

Which Milan neighbourhoods do you cover for pickup?

Every district of the municipality of Milan: Città Studi, Bovisa, Navigli, Porta Romana, Brera, Isola, Citylife, Sempione, Lambrate, NoLo. If the address is within the municipality, we come pick up. Enter your address in the booking form to verify exact coverage.

Do you also pick up from student residences?

Yes, we regularly work with university residences and student halls (Camplus, Collegio di Milano, Polimi residences, Bocconi residences, DoveVivo, etc.). Just enter the name of the residence in the form — our operator will know exactly where to go and how to access.

How far in advance should I book?

At least 3-5 days before pickup. In high season (June-July) book 2-3 weeks ahead: slots fill quickly. For September delivery it's best to set the date at booking, but you can always change it from your account.

What happens if I change university or leave Milan for good?

We can deliver your boxes to a new address within the municipality of Milan. If you leave Milan, message us through your account chat or at info@smoves.it and we'll work out the best solution together.
