The answers you need
Can I leave my belongings with Smoves if I'm going on Erasmus?
Yes. We keep your boxes for the whole Erasmus, usually 6, 9 or 12 months, and when you return we bring them to your new address.
What if I'm an Erasmus student arriving in Milan?
We help at two moments: 1) on arrival, storing boxes and luggage if your room isn't ready yet — the minimum is one month, though, not a few days; 2) during the year, if you change residence temporarily. The service runs in English and Italian.
How much does storage for a 12-month Erasmus cost?
The price has two lines: a fixed monthly rate for the square meters you take up, and the pickup at your door, paid once. The boxes and suitcases from one room usually fit in one or two square meters. You pay for the redelivery when you book it. You compare it with your rent: the rate and the pickup are in the quote.
What do I take on Erasmus and what do I leave in storage?
Typically on Erasmus you take clothes, computer, key books, personal items. You leave in storage: memories and sentimental items, non-essential books, out-of-season clothes, bedding, sports equipment you won't use. Smoves can help you in chat with personalized advice.

What if I extend my Erasmus?
Storage carries on month by month until you ask for the redelivery, with no penalty and no maximum.
What if my Erasmus is split between two cities?
We store your boxes for the whole duration and redeliver them to your door when you return. If the second semester is in another city, we ship them there: tell us the destination and we'll quote that trip.
How far in advance should I book Erasmus storage?
You can book just a few days ahead. Pickups at short notice and on Saturdays and Sundays cost a little more: the calendar shows you before you confirm. If you leave in September and want a specific day, book it as soon as you know the date.
Do you redeliver outside Milan on return?
Yes: we redeliver to your door anywhere from Novara to Brescia and from Como to Piacenza. If you don't come back here, we ship: stored belongings go anywhere in Italy and abroad, on a quote. Write to info@smoves.it with the destination and the date.

Why Erasmus storage is worth it
Leaving for Erasmus while keeping an empty room rented in Milan means paying six, nine or twelve months' rent for a bed you don't sleep in: you can do that sum yourself, with the rent you already know. Storage has two lines only, the fixed rate for the size you take up and the pickup charged once, and you see both in the quote, in 2 minutes.
And in the last days before you leave you don't have to ship boxes to your parents or fill somebody's attic.
On your return we redeliver to the new address you choose, in Milan just as in Pavia or Bergamo. If you're not coming back to Milan, we ship your things to wherever you are, in Italy or abroad: shipping isn't in the monthly rate, we quote it when you ask.
What does a six, nine or twelve month stay cost?
The monthly rate is fixed per size and charged every month, so on a long Erasmus it multiplies by the months. The pickup is paid once, at the start: if you commit to more months, the duration discount applies there, not to the rate. You see the rate and the pickup in the quote before confirming.
Can you send my things to another city or abroad?
Yes, we ship stored belongings anywhere in Italy and abroad. Shipping isn't in the monthly rate: we price it when you ask, based on the country and the date. Write to us and we'll quote that trip.
What's the minimum storage period?
One month. That's the billable minimum, and it applies to arrivals waiting for a room too: if you need ten days, you still pay the month. From there you extend as long as you like, a semester or a full academic year, and if your Erasmus is prolonged you extend storage from your account, with no penalty.
Who is behind Smoves
Smoves started in Milan in 2026. The founder, Francesco Nigro, did the June move as a student living away from home before turning it into a service; his business partner is Giulia Massari. The people who rely on us aren't only those studying any more: it might be a family mid-renovation or an office to clear out.
