Storing furniture with a parent in a care home in Florence: your questions
How long can I keep the furniture in storage?
For as long as needed. In these situations the duration isn't known in advance, and there's no need to fix it: you pay month by month, with no yearly contract, and redelivery happens only when you ask.
Can I have a piece brought to the care home?
Yes, by writing to us what and to which address, with at least 48 hours' notice. What can be kept in a room is for the care home to say: ask them first.
The care home is outside Florence: will you bring the piece there?
Yes, if it's in the province of Florence, for instance in Scandicci, Sesto Fiorentino or Empoli. Further away, goods are shipped on a quote.
I can't be at the home on pickup day: what do I do?
Name someone you trust as a delegate: they open the door to the crew in your place. If neither whoever booked nor a delegate is there, and you hadn't told us, the pickup is still due.

The dates the quote offers are ones we can really come: choose the first free one. With short notice the cost can be higher, and you see it before confirming.
Can an adjustable bed or a wheelchair go into storage?
It depends on the piece: write to us before the pickup and we look at it case by case.

Service and local details
What do you do with the home of a parent who is entering a care home in Florence?
You empty it a little at a time, without having to decide everything in a week. Entering a care home can follow a hospital stay, at Careggi for instance, and the timing is set by discharge, not by whoever is sorting the home. Storage collects the furniture, keeps it, and brings the care home what's needed.
Discharge sets the timing
If the care home admits straight away, the home has to be sorted in a few days. You book the pickup online, on the day you choose in the quote's calendar.
Stairs and upper floors
Some parents live in buildings in the center or the Oltrarno, with no elevator or a long flight. You give the floor in the quote, and the pickup is organized for that building.
The room at the care home is small
An armchair, a bedside table and a few photographs fit. The rest of the home isn't thrown out: it stays with us.
A piece that's missing, later
A month on, you notice a lamp or a dresser is needed. You write to us, and we bring it to the care home, in whichever town of the province it is.
How it goes, step by step
1. Whoever looks after the home books
Usually a son or daughter. You choose the space and the day; in the quote the rate and the pickup appear as two items, before payment. The order is yours, and so is the card.
2. At the door: whoever booked, or a delegate
It can be a brother, a sister, a neighbor you trust. Our crew takes away furniture and boxes.
3. We keep it in order
The warehouse is indoors and access-controlled, with video surveillance and an alarm. Every piece has its label.
4. We bring it to the care home, or to your place
You write what's needed and where, with 48 hours' notice: the care home, your home, another address. The rest stays in the warehouse.

The warehouse doesn't take cash and jewelry, original documents, medicines, food and drink, fine art, damaged batteries or hazardous materials. Emptying a home turns up more of these than you'd expect: set them aside before the pickup.

In a home being emptied several people are involved, and not all of them deal with us. Here is who decides, who books and what it means for storage.

The warehouse can't be visited: a piece isn't fetched, it's requested for redelivery, and writing to us is enough to get even a single one.
How much does it cost to keep the furniture while a parent is in a care home?
The rate is monthly and follows the space you take up, using the Florence price list. The pickup is a single charge, at the start; redelivery is paid when you book it. If you commit to more months, the discount goes on the pickup and never on the rate. Rate and pickup are written in the quote, before you confirm.
