FAQ on storage and sabbaticals
What changes if I stay away longer than planned?
Nothing: the rate carries on month by month and your things stay with us until you request redelivery.
Can I come back to a different home from the one I left?
Yes: redelivery goes to any address in the provinces we serve, and we set it together when you request it.
I'm handing the apartment back to the landlord: when should I book the pickup?
A few days before you hand back the keys, so the apartment is already empty for the final inspection. A booked pickup can't be canceled but it can be moved: the first move is free with at least 48 hours' notice. If you leave earlier, someone you've delegated needs to be there at pickup.
How do I pay the rate while I'm traveling?
You save your card when you book and the rate is charged every month, with a receipt by email. There's nothing to do until you're back.
More questions
Can I have just a few things brought back while I'm away?
If you're in Milan or a province we serve, yes: tell us what you want back, with at least 48 hours' notice, and the rest stays in storage. Elsewhere we handle it with shipping by quote.

Service and local details
How do you stop paying rent on an apartment you're not living in?
You give the apartment back to the landlord and put the furniture in storage. Twelve months of rent for a sofa nobody uses cost more than twelve months of rate for the space it takes up, and with the apartment empty you don't even need someone to keep an eye on it. When you're back, the furniture goes wherever you want.
You hand the apartment back to the landlord
No months of rent to keep a bed, and no sublet with your stuff lying around: the apartment goes back empty, as you found it.
You don't know how long it will last
Six months that turn into nine, because Lisbon is sunny and you don't feel like coming back. The rate runs month to month, and you stop when the furniture returns to you.
You don't know which home you'll end up in
You might change neighborhood, or city. Redelivery goes to an address you choose only then, even a different one.
You own too much for a friend's garage
A borrowed garage lasts as long as its owner's patience. Storage lasts as long as your trip.
How it works
1. You book from your sofa, before leaving
Choose the square meters you need and the pickup day. The quote shows the rate and the pickup before you pay.
2. We collect at your door in Milan
We come to load everything, bulky pieces included. At pickup we need you or someone you've delegated, say a friend with the keys.
3. We keep it for the whole trip
It stays in an indoor, dry, access-controlled facility. The rate is charged monthly to the card you saved, and every charge comes with a receipt by email.
4. We redeliver when you're back
You tell us once you know the date, with at least 48 hours' notice, and we set the day and address. If you settle elsewhere on the way, we ship by quote.
What you can store while you travel
Allowed
Furniture
Bed, sofa, table, wardrobe, bookcases, even dismantled to ease the pickup, by quote.
Appliances
Washing machine, fridge, oven, unplugged, emptied and clean. Empty the fridge and leave it open: we won't be storing the fish.
Musical instruments and fragile items
Guitar, mirrors, lamps, if well packed and flagged at pickup.
Boxes and gear
Books, clothes, camping tent, bike: whatever you're not taking with you.
Not allowed
Original documents, cash, jewelry and valuables stay with you. Also out: food, liquids, plants, medicines, motor vehicles and hazardous materials: leave your houseplants with a friend. Unsure about something? Message us before pickup.
Keeping the apartment or giving it up: what makes sense for each length
For a weekend the answer is easy: lock the door. For a year it isn't. This table lines up the most common lengths and what changes, with no made-up figures: the real numbers are in the quote.
| How long you're away | Rented apartment | Furniture |
|---|---|---|
| A month or two | You keep it, it's rent you already pay | Stays at home: you don't need storage |
| Six months or more | You hand it back to the landlord | In storage, rate month to month |
| A year, or more | You hand it back and end the lease | In storage, then redelivery to the address you choose |
| You don't know yet | You decide when to give it up | In storage as soon as you leave: no date to set today |
| You stay abroad | Closed | Shipped by quote to where you settled |
The rate only runs while your things are with us: when you take them back, it stops.
How much does storage during a sabbatical cost?
You pay a fixed monthly rate based on the square meters you take up, plus a one-off pickup charge at the start. You book and pay redelivery when you're back. If you commit to more months, the discount applies to the pickup, not the rate. The quote shows the rate and the pickup before you book.
