What is Smoves

**Smoves is a box and luggage storage service for university students living away from home in Milan**. It works in a simple way: you book online, we pick up your boxes from your room, we keep them in storage for as long as you need (a month, a summer, a year) and we deliver them where and when you want.

It was founded in Milan in 2025 by Francesco Nigro, a Bocconi student who experienced the end-of-year move problem first-hand. It is designed for students who don't have a family garage in town or who go back home far from Milan during the summer.

What Smoves actually does

The service has three distinct moments: **pickup**, **storage**, **delivery**.

**Pickup** happens at your Milan address in a time slot you choose at booking. You don't need to be there — just leave the boxes ready and arrange access with a flatmate, the building doorman or a friend.

**Storage** happens in a secure, climate-controlled, insured warehouse. Boxes are inventoried and tracked, so you always know how many you have and where they are.

**Delivery** is scheduled by you, when you need it, with a few days' notice. We can deliver to a new Milan address or, on request, to other Italian cities.

Who Smoves is built for

Smoves is designed around the needs of **university students living away from home in Milan**: those in single or double rooms, in residence halls, in coliving spaces, in shared flats. The most common use case is summer storage (June-September), but the service also covers Erasmus periods, thesis abroad, internships in other cities, exam sessions with a flat change.

It works equally well for Italian students and for international students at Politecnico, Bocconi, Università Statale, Cattolica, IULM, Humanitas, NABA and other Milan-based universities.

Where Smoves operates

For now, Smoves operates **only in Milan**, covering the whole city and the first ring of neighbouring municipalities. The areas with the highest demand are those close to university campuses: Città Studi, Bovisa, Porta Romana, Bligny, Navigli, Brera, Lambrate, Lorenteggio.

We are evaluating expansion to other Italian university cities (Turin, Bologna, Rome, Padua) but the service is currently Milan-only.

How booking works

Booking is done entirely online in about 3 minutes, on [smoves.it](https://www.smoves.it/book). You'll need: pickup address, number of boxes, preferred date and time slot, delivery address.

Payment happens online via Stripe (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay). Pricing is transparent: you only pay for the number of boxes you store, with no hidden costs. Pickup, monthly storage and delivery are all included in the price.

What Smoves is not

Sometimes people searching Google for "smoves" also find results from other products with the same name born in different contexts: **those are not our service**.

The Smoves we're talking about here is not **a mobility app** (we don't operate scooters, bicycles or car-sharing). It is not **a game or smartphone app** in the gaming/entertainment space. It is not **a fitness or activity-tracking app**. It is not **an international service**: it operates only in Italy, only in Milan.

Who's behind Smoves

Smoves is founded and run by Francesco Nigro, a former Bocconi student who turned a problem he lived through into a structured service. The operating base is at Viale Bligny 19A, in the university district right behind Bocconi and a few minutes from Statale.
